But in my own humble opinion, there is one fashion rule that should A-L-W-A-Y-S be followed. No white after Labor Day or before Easter. Sorry y'all... I know this might seem a wee bit old fashioned but call me Granny, cause I can't stand it. And no offense to you if you do it and wear white with pride in February. Or if you are one of those girls still wearing white sandals with your red game day dress on a Tuscaloosa Saturday in October. It's just not my cup of tea.
Some people here in the South say you can wear white once it's warm and "it's different in the South." I beg to differ. Just cause it's 85 degrees in April doesn't give you permission to wear white. It's not like every article of your summer wardrobe is white. Admit it, you are just jonesin' to show off your spring break tan.
When I say no white I don't mean absofreakinlutely no white what-so-ever. Winter white is perfectly acceptable {in small doses, like a coat. not head to toe} and white from the waist up {like a white top or blouse} is ok too as long as it's not linen or another summery material. However any white below the belt {unless it's your drawers} is not cool. That means it is NOT okay to wear white shoes, dresses, skirts, pants, shorts, etcetera. Same goes for seersucker. Nothing screams summertime like some seersucker. It is half white, too. While we're at it we can talk about prints. If it's a mainly white print, keep it in the closet til Easter.
I understand years like this one... when Mardi Gras falls late hence forth causing a later Easter you can get a bit impatient waiting to pull out your white linen pants and seersucker sun dresses. But puhlease, just for the sanity of the obsessive compulsive people of the world like myself... keep it to a minimal.

I completely agree! the only white dress i wear for now is for sorority rituals and even then I feel like an idiot walking to the house in a white dress!
Well, hate to burst your bubble but I don't abide by the no white after Labor Day before Easter rule. It's just a color, and there are certain tops I own that look better with white bottoms. :)
I kind of agree with the white thing, but in sunny Southern California, it's a bit different . Have a fabulous Monday love! Kori xoxo

I agree with the white thing, but for the first time in my life, I wore white before Easter last week.
Couldn't agree more!! I have seen more white pants and shorts than I have wanted to see. I cringe when I see people doing it!!
So glad you did this blog! I cringe too every time I see anyone wearing white below the belt! It just isn't cute...
I let my daughter wear white shoes to church on Sunday. It's hard when she either has summer or winter dresses and not much in between!
I can't go with you on the brown and black. I would never mix those two unless they were already mixed in a skirt or something. Just can't do it. Ha! Aren't we all funny with our fasion faux pas?
i break this rule often. White shorts and shoes in Cali are always a year long must, but any time i travel back home to Bama I chose what I wear much more respectively. another amazing post. Yesterday I attended a fall/winter 2011/2012 preview in Beverly Hills. Check out the pics on my blog if you get a second. xoxo
