Tide's Traditions: Homecoming

This weekend is homecoming at Alabama. So of course, I am going to put on my crimson and white, grab make shaker and make an appearance. I love homecoming!!! I don’t have many words that I can use to describe homecoming at the University of Alabama. Really, words can’t describe it… but I will try.
Homecoming week is one of the most crazy, insane and FUN times at Alabama. The entire week is one intense battle of sororities and fraternities. Every night/day there are more than one competition all leading up to the grand finale of all events {keep reading}. You spend all day all night at “the house” {sorority house} with the fraternity you are paired with {normally every sorority is paired with 2-3 frats} working to perfect your lawn decoration {this is the grand finale event, judged on Friday morning}. Hours and hours of pomping go into this this week. What’s a lawn decoration? What’s pomping? You might ask! A pomp is a tiny rolled up ball of tissue paper or sheets of tissue paper shoved into chicken wire… most sororities do both styles of pomping. These pomps compile the extravagant lawn décor you are sure to see at U of A on a Homecoming Saturday.

When I was at Bama, I looked forward to Homecoming cause even after I left I always came back and the weekend was sure to bring lots of fun. I still look forward to it cause I always know my friends are going to be coming back for the weekend.

Here are some of my sororities lawn decorations since I have been in college… and since I have graduated.

These were from my Freshman year! It was one of the University's anniversarys and in the middle was a giant crimson and white cake. I don't have a picture of it :( but that is me and my mom standing in the cake walk way. It was hands down the best lawn decoration and did not place but it was sooo good.

This was from my Sophomore year. Not one of our best lawn decorations but they are all great in my opinion cause I know how much hard word is put into even the simplest decorations.
This was from Senior year. I do not have Junior year but it was fantastic as well! You can see we placed this year and we placed junior year as well. I think Junior year we got 1st and this year 2nd or 3rd.

This was last years! It was great, too. So proud of the girls for keeping up all the hard work.

A lot of sororities also have fun things on their lawn aside from the main decorations that you can stop and take pictures with...

I have tons of pictures of pretty much every sorority house's decorations from the last 5 years but I would not be able to put those on there cause that is A LOT!

Just a little taste about what homecoming is all about at the U of A... it is a pretty big deal and the sororities get really into it. It's fun, especially when you win.

Fashion Friday: Doggy Edition

Yes, I am one of those people. I like to dress my dog up. Not just cause it's cute but because in the winter time it is practical cause she is geniunely freezing her tooshie off and needs something to warm all 3.9lbs of her up.

So of course, I am always trying to keep Lexie in the newest fashions. Always stumbling upon the cutestttt little dog boutiques, ever... online of course. Dog boutiques are not exactly popular in Birmingham, Alabama. Yeah, I am saying in this demographical region it's not common for a labrador retriever to be seen wearing a pink dress even if she is a girl. It's a hunting dog!

So today I bring you a special edition of Fashion Friday for my baby Lexie. All of these fashions I found on The Sassy Pup!

Y'all know I love cupcakes. Oh my goodness, isn't this just the cutest? Lexie wants this for Christmas. I know it already. You can view {Here}

Baby girl loves her elephants... Ahemmmm... Roll Tide.

She has been BEGGING for and iPawd

She just WUFFS to go to Barkingdales on a shopping spree

I know I always call her the Baby but this would take it to another level!

Now you can see Lexie wearing some of her favorite clothes...

Diva would NOT look at the camera. This is my fave dress of hers.

Looking like a Princess
Her Favorite designer outfit; her Juicy couture shirt!

Being a good girl and smiling for Mommy.

Please tell me I am not that ONLY one that wants my dog to be a fashionista. Hope y'all have enjoyed this very interesting version of Fashion Friday.

Round 2: My OTHER Fairytale Life

I told y'all I was going to finally do a Disney update {another update that I STILL NEED TO DO is my friend Amber's baby shower!} so here we go. In my other imaginary life, I live at The Happiest Place on Earth and can go there anytime I want. I also should mention in said fairytale life, I work there too! Oh Heavens how great this would be {except the humidity. yuck!}

I had so much fun in Disney! I went with my friend, Shannon and her mom, Sheila who both love Disney like I do. I have never been near Halloween time so this was my first time to go to Mickey's Not So Scary Hallween Party which was a blast. So much fun. Not crowded. Awesome parade and fireworks. We literally did everything in MK that 1 day. If you are ever contemplating this event it is WELL WORTH the money. We wanted to wear something fun and halloweenie to the "party" but were not sure about actual costumes so we all matched in cute Mickey Jack-O-Lantern shirts... see below.

I also got to meet up with one of my sorority sisters, Hayley! She works at Disney World in entertainment and it was so awesome to get to see her. She was one of my first friends when I started at Alabama my freshman year then we became sisters.

Hayley , Me, My friend Shannon and her mom Sheila.
yes, Hayley is so short. I am 5'4 and she is barely maybe not even 5 feet tall.

Here is a SMALL peek at our trip. We took tons of pictures with characters because there were no lines. So, why not? It's Disney World!  Also because there were lots of characters out that normally are not out in the parks, just around Halloween. Oh and please ignore me in every picture like I said the humidity was AWFUL. I swear I don't look a fool like this on a daily basis.

There is a super funny story behind this photo but unfortunately I can't tell it :)

I have so many more pictures and ones from the Boo To You Parade and I am going to have some more posts on my trip!!! As you can tell it was a lot of good, clean, fun!

Now I want to go back ASAP. Fairytale life, I tell ya...

How I am relating the death of Steve Jobs to SATC

Seriously saddend to hear about the death of Steve Jobs last night. Obama said it perfectly, “The world has lost a visionary, and there may be no greater tribute to Steve’s success than the fact that much of the world learned of his passing on a device he invented.” and that's EXACTLY how I found out about his death. I am going to be honest with you... I was browing my twitter app in the Chick-Fil-A drive through when I heard the news.

Thanks to Jobs, I have 2 of my closest friends; my MacBook and iPhone. MacBook which I blog from and my iPhone which I constantly check my email to see if I have any new comments. Here's to YOU, blog friends.

I try to think of life without Apple. A life with only the dreaded pc {which I am unfortunately pecking away at right now at work... I wish my company would switch over *pipe dream*}.

Now let's relate this sad moment in technology history to something more happy, Sex and the City!

Thank you Steve Jobs, from the bottom of my heart. Without your mastermind what would the brilliant Carrie Bradshaw have wrote her column on.
Where my SATC fans at? You know we have seen this scene far too often. Carrie restlessly typing away as she stares out the window at the picturesque New York skyline. How perfect is this? Typical Carrie. I can hear her now, "Later that day I got to thinking..."

Then when her beloved motherboard crashed and Aidan came to the rescue. It was a sad day in Carrie Bradshaw Land! The thought of no more of Carrie's ingenius writings being brought to the readers of NYC saddens me to this day. Never fear, Aidan saved the day. Of course Carrie was broker than broke back mountain from buying too many pairs of Manolos so Aidan bought her new MacBook which she hated, returned and went back to her prehistoric MacBook g3 powerbook.

There she is again. The literally genius, CB, seen with her confidant and sidekick le macbook pro in the SATC movie.

Thanks for everything, Steve Jobs. For all the great Apple goodness and for bringing technology into the life of Carrie Bradshaw and allowing her to create her fabuous AOL screen name, none other than "SHOEGAL" I can't wait to get my iPad for Christmas.

My Fairytale Life.

Oh, Pinterest. How you fill my mind with crafts, recipes and make believe scenarios. Pinterest has filled my head with crafts, recipes and make believe scenarios. Thanks to Pinterest, I have been FORCED to plan a wedding {that may or may not ever happen}, decoratte a house that I might not ever move into and plan birthdays for my unborn children. Pinterest = fantasy world.

This obsession has gotten worse over the past week or two, almost as bad as my fascination with my "Secret baby names" I have for my future embryos. Yes, I have secret baby names. Am I the ONLY ONE who remembers the episode of SATC where Charlotte got robbed of her secret baby name by that witch? I mean, I still can't understand why someone would want to name their baby "Shayla" but still.... she was robbed. Which is why I have not told a single soul my secret baby names. I also have a "Secret song" for the father-daughter dance at my wedding. I might have accidentally told a few this but my lips are sealed now. I can't risk someone stealing it cause let's face it unique and different choices for a father-daughter dance are few and far between. {SEE, I told you I lived in a fantasy world.... I even have a secret baby name for my unborn and a secret song for my wedding. what if I never get married and have kids?}

Moving forward with this edition of Oh, How Pinteresting Wednesday with THE VINTAGE APPLE... This week is dedicated to my make-believe world where I get married, have kids and a house. If you ever decide you want to follow me on pinterest, you can do so HERE! Ok, so here we go with the fairy tale story....

Once upon a time I met Prince Charming who swooned me when he asked me to marry him.

How freaking sweet is that? I swoon. So duh, I said yes. I mean I would say yes... :)

First things first. Gotta get my ladies! This is how I "will ask". In truest Lindsey Fashion

You can send Mickey and Minnie and invitation to your wedding and they send this back to you! How sweet. I am a disney dork, I know.

A bouquet that is elegant yet Southern {magnolias}

A cake with bows. Cause they are my favorite.

Bridesmaids wearing different style dresses to reflect their personality.
Color scheme: champagne colored dresses to go with a silver/gold wedding.

What a cute idea!

Gorg! and you can't see the people running around with the sparklers... magic of editing!

Move into this house...

With a fabulous closet like this. complete w/ washer and dryer, what a brilliant idea!

A baby shower! I think would be too cute in blue and pink

a vintage/shabby chic nursery

A precious 1st birthday party with all the tulle in the world.

And that my friends, is an ACTIVE imagination :) Enjoy my pins!

Fall Fun

Isn't it funny when  you have a day that you think is going to be just another work day that turns into a really fun day? Well, around 10:30 this morning my co-worker sent me an email asking me to go to a luncheon with her... DUH! Sometimes my job really has its perks! These kind of fun events remind me why I love my job so much. Here's why!

This luncheon was with one of our vendors (remember, I work in travel) who happens to do a lot of destination weddings. We aren't exactly in the wedding business here at the travel company but our vacation department does a lot of honeymoons and destination weddings so some of our events are actually bridal shows! Hence, we get invited to bridal events.

Our vendor partnered with a local jeweler and hosted this great event at The Donelly House in Birmingham, which is gorg btw... if any of you B'ham brideys are looking for a reception or even wedding venue. Donelly House has a catering company they use and they provided lunch, dessert and an after event gathering at the jewelry store with some more fun stuff.

The venue is so beautiful and newly remodeled. The tables were decorated with precious fall decor!

For lunch we had a Paella in a pumpkin. How cute?!?! I would have never thought to use a pumpkin but that is precious. It could work for dips or even for soups in the fall. Great idea for fall themed gatherings or Halloween parties. The paella was chicken, pork and shrimp and was delicious.

For dessert, sadly no good picture, we had a Creme Brulee Martini {vanilla vodka}. The martini was rimmed with graham cracker flavored sugar {yes, flavored sugar!}. It also had the fired sugar atop just like a REAL creme brulee. It was hardened and covered the entire top -- you had to break it to drink.

When we headed for the "After party" they had Dreamcakes Bakery there with their CUPCAKE TRUCK. Ahhh cupcake heaven! They served us wedding cake cupcakes {btw, sooo good}.

This is the back of the truck.

Devoured shortly after I got back to the office.

It was a lovely little surprise to brighten what I like to call "Terrible Tuesday". Monday isn't too bad cause it was just the weekend yesterday. Wednesday is the middle of the week aka "Hump Day", Thursday is "Friday Eve" and then Friday is Casual Friday/Almost the weekend... that leaves Tuesday with nothing fun. Hence Tuesday = Terrible Tuesday. Just my opinion on the days of the week.

Since this made my day go by so quick and was really fun "work" I want to brighten all of your days...

Doesn't Lexie look so precious? She is wearing her halloween dress! It has a ghost on the back and yes, she loves wearing clothes. She strives to be a "real girl".

Miscellany Monday

I can't believe it's Ole Blue Monday! I feel like Friday was yesterday. The weekends are too short, I vote for longer weekends and shorter work weeks!

This weekend was my first weekend to stay at home in a month. I was going, going, going for 4 weekends in a row and this weekend was much needed even though I felt like I was still running around ... just not out of town. Then began the never ending headache... it literally lasted 2 days and I never thought it would go away.

I did a little bit of crafting and went to my cousin Amanda's wedding. It was a small but very pretty wedding. Her husband is from Germany so they had Southern Food + Traditional German fare. It was at a gorgeous antebellum home nestled down a dirt/gravel road -- which is an interesting story in it's self on how we were so confused when our directions took us to a plumbing company.

I don't really have a l ot to say today... I went shopping Saturday morning as well and got some great new things for fall as well as spotted future christmas gifts and even convinced my grandmother into buying me a christmas gift already {well, it is October!}. I found a beautiful Michael Kors rain coat that I had to have, it really helped that my grandmother thought it was cute.

I went into Forever21 and had a somewhat successful trip for the first time in, forever! I got a pair of earrings, a red/black houndstooth poncho and an animal print cardigan. I wish I could find my items online but can't. Pics later this week? I also got a new fall dress that I wore to the wedding... it's a colorblock dress and I love it. It is also brown & black colorblock, which I love even more cause I don't think brown and black are such a bad combo afterall.

Something else I am pondering -- getting a new blog layout.

That is all.
